On the weekend of 3 – 5 December a festival of classical music will be presented in the neighbouring villages of Greyton and Genadendal, featuring the cream of South African classical artists. Classics for All “Under Blue Skies” – an open-air festival – will be staged in the beautiful outdoor settings Greyton and Genadendal have to offer.

Concerts will be staged in the tranquil and serene gardens of The Greyton Lodge, High Hopes Retreat Centre, Fiore Garden Centre & Restaurant, and under the majestic oak trees of the historic Moravian Church Square in Genadendal and on the expansive lawns of the beautifully restored The Oaks Estate, with the Sonderend Mountains as the backdrop.

After the cancellation of the 16th Greyton Genadendal Classics for All Festival in May 2020 we were hoping to stage the festival this year in our normal calendar slot, i.e. May 2021. Unfortunately the Covid-19 situation in South Africa forced us to cancel this long-awaited festival for a second time.

The words of a young songstress who has suffered tremendous tragedy, Jane Nightbird Marczewski on the talent program America’s got Talent, struck a note : “You can’t wait until life isn’t hard anymore before you decide to be happy.”

We have therefore decided to, despite the difficult and dark times we have experienced in the past two years, stage the Classics for All festival in December this year and to find an alternative way to make our audiences feel more at ease to attend our concerts.

Should the weather not play along for outdoor performances, concerts will be held in various indoor venues in the two villages – large enough for excellent social distancing.

Staging the festival will comply with Government regulations re the Covid19 situation at the time of the festival. Attendance numbers may have to be limited to make provision for social distancing, and concertgoers may be encouraged to wear masks.

Tickets will be sold by Computicket and an announcement will be made when tickets will go on sale.

The program for the festival will be announced soon.
